Penrith Remembrance Sunday Parade

10.40 The Civic Parade to St Andrews Church

11.00am 2 minutes silence followed by laying of wreaths at the Town’s War memorial in St Andrews Churchyard

Remembrance Day Service open to all and delivered by Revd. David Sargeant, Penrith Branch of the Royal British Legion. The procession will then proceed to Castle Park to lay wreaths at the Memorial Gate.

1.00pm Special Remembrance exhibition at The Eden Valley Artistic Network (EVAN) Gallery, where local artists show their work reflecting their own individual responses to the Great War.  The exhibition will feature the iconic near life size ‘Tommy’ (the original silent soldier) silhouette.

Later in the day, Penrith Town Council will participate in the “Battles Over, a National Tribute’.

18.55 The Last Post will be played by bugle at  Penrith Beacon. The 201 names of those fallen from Penrith in the First World War, will be read out by the Town’s Mayor, Councillor Scott Jackson.

19.00 Penrith Beacon will be lit up as part of the nationwide Beacons of Light project.

19.00-21.00 Penrith Beacon is lit up. The beacon of light will extend from the Beacon to St Andrews Church

19.05 St Andrews Bell Ringers will ring the Church Bells as part of the national ‘Battles Over – Ringing out for Peace’ project, which marks the end of the First World War.

When the bells fall silent, members of EVAN will be co-ordinating an evening of remembrance with poems and music to close the event at St Andrews.

8.00pm at the George Hotel ‘Remembered’ performed by members of EVAN featuring dance, music and poetry from Penrith Players. A chance to go back in time, consider those who lived in such a turbulent era and move forward with hope. ENTRY is FREE. However, it is best to reserve tickets for The George’s evening performance from the EVAN Gallery, 4 Corney Square Penrith.
